LGBTQ Best Practices for First Responders

In partnership with the LGBTQ Connection of Sonoma County, we are hosting a “LGBTQ Best Practices for First Responders” class.  

Our instructor will be the programs manager from the LGBTQ connection.  Topics will include:

  • History of interactions between the LGBTQ community and Public Safety
  • The importance of people being “who they are”
  • Obstacles or fears that get in the way of being LGBTQ inclusive
  • LGBTQ terms (with a glossary)
  • Pronoun usage
  • Youth and senior issues
  • How to best interact and communicate with someone who is LGBTQ

There will also be a panel of guests, scenario exercises and group discussions.

*This class is open to any First Responder.

Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED

April 6, 20208:00am – 2:30pm

Dugan House Classroom (Across the street from the Dry Creek Rancheria Fire Department)

The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age—adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

Course Requirements:

  • Students must be able to be on knees for extended periods of time.
  • Students must be able to apply pressure with shoulders, arms, and wrists.
  • Students must bring their own supplies to take notes.

Recommendations:

  • Students may bring a foam pad or knee pads for comfort.
  • Students may wear workout gear or comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.
  • Students may bring water bottles to stay hydrated (and coffee).

Notes:

  • Class size is 10 students.
  • Lunch is not provided. A 30-minute lunch period will be given to students. (Please bring a lunch or plan on being back to class within the allotted time.)
